Sick, but still working
I started getting sick on monday when I woke up with a sore thoat. It gradually got worse until yesterday - I went to Bakersfield (1 hour away) to get the PEX tubing for doing water supply plumbing. While at the plumbing supply company (where I waited an hour and a half to get my order) I started running a fever. I've felt pretty bad since. BUT, I did get 90% of the pressurized plumbing done today. I'm using PEX tubing that is color coded in to blue and red to make it even easier to trace what you're doing.
I hope I feel better tomorrow. I plan to get almost done with the PEX plumbing and start on the gas plumbing tomorrow.

Windows In

Today, Charles and I installed the windows and finished the flashing around them. I hung the first patio door late this evening and will hang more of the exterior doors after dinner tonight.
Jan Comes to Visit During Thanksgiving

Jan was able to get away from her new job to spend Thanksgiving with me. I picked her up in LA and we had Thanksgiving lunch at the Chart House in Malibu, then we came back to California City and worked the rest of the weekend. Jan was very good at nailing the decking on top of the house with the rapid fire coil nailer.

View of current 3 houses
This photo is taken last week from the top of Dale's house - looking across at my house. Mark's house that he just finished (almost) is on the left. Mark's house is the 'old plan'. Dale and I are building our new plan which is slightly larger with steeper roof pitch and vaulted ceilings in the living area. (That's Dale working on his house).Wednesday, November 23, 2005
Still Working
We've been pretty much mirroring Dale and my house up to this point. Today - tuesday is Dale's last day here for about a week and a half. His wife, Caroline is having a medical procedure and he'll stay home (in Washington State) with here during her recovery. Before he left, we got practically all of the decking on the roof and should be ready for a 'shear' inspection on his house. My house is probably about 1 day behind this point.

Trusses Finished

All the trusses are on, spaced, blocked and tied down. The next thing to do is to finish decking the trusses, then put the fascia on. The next 2 weeks will be very busy with electrical, HVAC, plumbing and more.

The view before trusses
Things are a happenin'

Over the weekend we really hit Dale's house very hard and got it up to the same point that mine was. On monday morning at 11 am, the truck with the roof trusses showed up and we swarmed my house. We were able to get the main part of the house set and blocked (spaced). We'll be able to get most of it finished on tuesday and get a lot of Dale's done as well.
I'll be going home for a long weekend on wednesday

Moving Along
On Thursday, we basically finished all the walls on my house. We decided to take all of our recent experience and move over to Dale's slab and do the walls there. Keep in mind that it's the same house design, so we were able to get a tremendous amount done on Friday because we learned so much from doing my house. We may finish the walls on Dales house on Saturday. If we do, I'll take photos of both houses.

Framing almost done

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday has been spent getting about 90 percent of the framing done. We've gotten 80% of the exterior walls done and almost all of the interior walls. On thursday we'll finish the walls and install all the windows and some of the doors probably. It's hard to get a feel for the house right now in pictures.
I'm hoping the trusses will come this week. They're scheduled for next tuesday/wednesday - put I have requested them earlier. We'll see.

Long Tiring Day

With everyone else taking the weekend off, I'm here laying out and framing the walls. Considering I've never done this before, it's quite a job, BUT with probably 2 dozen phone calls to JB to make sure I'm doing it right, I feel confident that I'm laying them out properly. We'll be putting the walls up tomorrow. Yippie!!

Another Nice Sunset
Framing Package Arrives

The Framing Package (everything I need to put the walls up) arrived at 4 am friday morning. I woke up and heard a diesel truck across the street. Knowing that the framing package was going to be delivered early in the morning - I jumped up and was able to catch the driver before he dumped the load at the wrong site.

The Slab is Poured

The Slab was poured (thanks to Dale's hard work) while I was back at home. Here's a photo of the slab. The RV that I'm living in is in the background.
